15,000 unique visitors

Friday, February 10th, 2006

In an interesting turn of event my article on Microsoft vs Linux hit the frontpage of digg.com, resulting in 15,000 unique visitors, approximately 50,000 pageviews and 160,000 hits.

Of these, the first 10,000 visitors visited during the first five hours after the story hit the frontpage.

Microsoft’s Get the facts campaign

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

I just published some of my thoughts on the Microsoft Get The facts campaign at kfwebs.net.

An interesting observation to this is that although the analysis is performed by independent sources, they are often sponsored by Microsoft or an affiliate. I agree completely with the last sentence “Get the facts, and make the decision that’s right for your business”, but get them yourself, and don’t trust a single source of information.

Now don’t get me wrong, Microsoft has its place and in many situations it can be profitable to use Microsoft applications. Their collaboration suites have potential and management of many computers can be relatively easy. At least in theory. The problems come if you try to use a non-Microsoft system in addition to the windows computer, as Microsoft for one keep their communication formats and document formats for themselves, as well as changing the application programmer interface (API) constantly with little documentation.

Syria standing up for itself

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

I was rather happy when I came across the website zozo2k3.blogspot.com. I wouldn’t know of it hadn’t it been for a comment on kfwebs.net.

This blog, and several with it stand up and rectify my hopes of this being an extremist act not supported by most of the citizens of Syria. From the blog:

I was there yesterday, I had to see the “conflict zone”.
What was not aired in the news was that the first floor of the embassy complex is a SYRIAN Company “Debbane”, and the last floor is an actual residence!

A thank you from Norway to all of you whom post blogs standing up against the attacks.
