This comic strip hit the spot. The problem with, amongst other things SPAM isn’t the senders themselves, but the fact that people make it profitable for the sender.

SPAM, as well as email security is a social problem. Even if security software was distributed and configured by a third party for free, as long as the user isn’t aware (or caring) about its usage, it will be easy to obtain through other means.
